Tomato paradise

Creating of Shebutintsy greenhouse farm two years ago which specializes in tomatoes, was an experimental event rather than productive one. But even in such short period, the farm has shown excellent results and great potential. Its production already competes with import tomatoes.

Progressive scientific approach really gives a high result, though it’s a common knowledge that tomatoes are capricious and require hard work. Its hard believe, but these greenhouses are maintained by only two workers and three more are temporary involved during harvest.

Living space of Shebutintsy greenhouse farm is 0.48 ha (12 greenhouses and hut for seeds). The greenhouses were constructed according the project of Carpathian engineers, who adopted the European experience. Such greenhouse is almost equal standard glass one, resistant to strong winds, hail, etc., but its construction is much cheaper.

Vasily Ryaby, farm foreman is an experienced and responsible person. He cares about seeds personally and cherishes them. The facility is new, but still very promising. The main vegetables are hybrid varieties of Dutch tomatoes. An interesting feature of cultivation there is minimal use of chemical remedies. Quantity of nitrates per unit in these vegetables is three times lesser than usual, although the diseases and pests bypass the vegetables. Therefore, these tomatoes have the same quality level as vegetables in your kitchen garden. In addition, plants are not endangered by drought or frost - double ceiling, drip irrigation, gas guns and electrical heating help to resist any bad weather.

Vasily Ryaby does not afraid to experiment. There are melons, watermelons and varieties of strawberry yet unknown in the Chernivtsi region growing on test lots. If the yield and quality meet certain requirements, it is quite possible that these gifts of nature will also be more accessible for ordinary Ukrainians.

So, we hope that Shebutintsy greenhouse farm will continue to pleasure us with abundant harvest of the most delicious varieties.
