This sector is represented by two enterprises located in Khmel'nytsky and Chernivtsy regions.
The most prominent enterprise of the branch Ovochevyj Dim Podillya Ltd. located in Khmel'nytsky region, specializes in vegetable growing and storage. Onions, cabbage and potatoes are the main cultures.
All vegetables are grown using drip irrigation, quite a new technique for western Ukraine.
Currently, the total area of cultivated land is 120 hectares.
In 2008, the average onion yield was 55 tons/ha, and cabbage yield – 60 tons/ha.
The corporation uses vegetable growing technologies like spraying machines and specialized European equipment which allow us to avoid using unskilled labor in plant growing and harvesting.
Our vegetable storage facility is located in the city of Shepetivka. The existing structure was modernized by evaporating polyurethane foam and equipped with drying, ventilation, and refrigeration systems ( 2 Ѱ), ensuring excellent storage of products up to 7 months. In 2008 2100 tons of onions and 450 tons were stored.
In Sokyriany, Chernivtsi region 12 plastic-covered greenhouses are constructed for growing ecologically clean tomatoes on the total area 0.5 ha. The bulk yield in 2008 was 50 t.
The most recent endeavor of the corporation, launched in 2007.
At the moment, one of our enterprises, Bukovynsky Sad Ltd., takes care of 191 hectares of new intensive orchards that are located in Sokyriany district Chernivtsy region. These orchards make use of drip irrigation. We possess 161 ha of apple and 30 ha of pear orchards on medium- and low-height tree stocks producing Aydared, Djonagold, Prima, Golden Delicious, Champion, Renet Symerenka, apples, as well as Noyabrska and Yablunivska pears.
Our corporation seeks for top-quality and ecologically clean products. Therefore, the use of biohumus of our own production is increasingly important in food manufacturing.
Within the next year Svorag West Group plans to create another 100 hectares of intensive orchards using stakes and drip irrigation. All quality seedlings of required sorts are provided by our own fruit seeding bed which has been operating in Chernivtsy region since 2005.
In order to store gowned products in the end of 2009 the fourth in the whole Ukraine controlled-atmosphere (CA) 1200 tons storage in Sokyriany district, Chernivtsy region was constructed. This facility ensures preservation of fruit quality and enables suppling the market with fresh apples and first-rate pears until the next harvest.
